Dynacrypt® gives its users the option to measure the Shannon File Entropy for any file that will be encrypted using Dynacrypt®. To find out the Shannon File Entropy of the file if encrypted using Dynacrypt® do the following:
1. Select Open File for Analysis from the File menu or select the Icon on the DynaTool Bar. A File Browser dialog box will appear as shown below:
2. Select the file to analyze from the File Browser Dialog Box and select the Open button.
3. Select Shannon File Entropy from the Analysis menu on the Menu bar or the SE Icon on the DynaTool Bar.
4. The Shannon File Entropy Dialog Box will appear showing the Normalized Shannon File Entropy (Base 2) and
the Base 10 Shannon File Entropy, if the file is encrypted.
The Shannon File Entropy is a cryptographic measure that indicates the amount of file disorganization that has occurred as a result of encrypting the file. This is one indication of the strength of the proposed scheme. The Normalized Shannon File Entropy is defined as
where p(i) is the probability of the occurrence of each ASCII symbol in the Cipher text. Since the probability of each ASCII character is p(i) = 1/256, the maximum Normalized Shannon File Entropy is
where
